Introducing our new five-year strategy

We’ve come a long way since launching our project six years ago. Starting as a small pilot with 25 young mothers in 2018, we now support upwards of 130 young mothers every year with our two local partners, MEANS and AdAmi Sierra Leone. Throughout, we have had the joy of watching the young mothers slowly reshape their lives and narratives, from ‘school dropouts’ to university scholars, economically inactive to skilled mechanics and tailors, shy and uncertain to vocal human rights activists. We couldn’t be more proud of and inspired by the young women on the programme.

Our new five-year strategy provides a roadmap for the AdAmi Project until 2029. Whilst our core mission remains the same - to work alongside young mothers in Sierra Leone to build happy, healthy, and independent lives through tailored, holistic support - the strategy sets out our ambitions to evolve our ambitions and approach in new ways. This includes shifting power to our local partners and testing ideas and initiatives that promise to increase impact and sustainability overall.

The strategy is guided by three intended outcomes:

Outcome One: The AdAmi Project and our partners have an evidence-based, replicable programme model that effectively supports and empowers young mothers.

Outcome Two: Partners in Sierra Leone have the capacity and capabilities to lead the design and management of programs and resources.

Outcome Three: The AdAmi Project has a diverse and reliable funding base and skilled teams to deliver our work and mission effectively.

We will work to achieve this in a number of ways, including:

  • Increasing the opportunities for young mothers to be involved in the project, including giving back as peer mentors and volunteers in the future.

  • Facilitating real and effective training and work opportunities for young mothers, such as piloting a new social enterprise and group livelihood activities.

  • Active collaboration and joint decision-making between the AdAmi Project and local partners.

  • Encouraging and facilitating opportunities for funders to give directly to our local partners.

We would like to say a huge thank you to the numerous supporters championing our work. We can’t wait to work alongside you to realise our ambitions for the young mothers of Sierra Leone.
